The guest speaker will be Dr. Josh Kardos. \nDr. Josh Kardos became interested in horticulture as a young boy while working in his grandmother’s garden. During high school and college\, he worked for a garden center\, a woody nursery\, and an herbaceous greenhouse\, and as an undergraduate research assistant in an ornamental plant breeding program. Dr. Kardos obtained his B.S. and Ph.D. degrees in horticulture from the University of Georgia. After graduate school he worked as the plant breeder and general manager of a startup ornamental plant breeding company in Georgia. He then moved from Georgia to North Carolina to work for a startup\, internationally owned vegetable grafting operation\, where he was involved in all aspects of production and management. \nAlthough Dr. Kardos enjoys production horticulture\, he realized that training and leading employees brought him the most fulfillment. Therefore\, he sought an opportunity to teach horticulture to undergraduates from his years of experience in the green industry. He began teaching horticulture at Virginia Tech as an instructor in 2020. Last fall\, he was promoted to Collegiate Assistant Professor with a 75% teaching and 25% scholarship and leadership of teaching appointment. He teaches Indoor Plants\, Plant Propagation\, Herbaceous Landscape Plants\, Greenhouse & CEA Management\, Production of Food Crops in CEA\, and Ornamental Plant Production & Marketing.
